The Young Years of St. Francis of Assisi
[ send me this essay ]
This is a 6 page paper discussing the early years in the life of Francis of Assisi. Born in 1181 in Assisi, St. Francis enjoyed a youth which was filled with glamour, popularity, glorious clothing, banquets, feasts, dances and song. Although his youth may not be considered typical of that of a saint it was certainly typical of the wealthy merchant class in which Francis and his companions belonged. His mother was considered quite pious and his father considered stingy but Francis was not considered either as he was well liked, charismatic, generous and often provided a great deal for his friends and those in poverty. The banquets and dances in which he was a leader were often lewd and seductive and along with the other youths of the time, Francis enjoyed immensely and was known for his great voice. Despite these rather mischievous beginnings however, all historians still recorded him as well mannered and well liked by all who knew him.

addresses his own work as "narratives of ascent."

are; how does self-definition figure in the mix?
These black men are well past the "what do you
wanna be when you grow up phase," and are verbally
painted for us by Gates, as msters of their own
identities.

Thomas Edison: Genius or Just Looking for Fame?
[ send me this essay ]
10 pages. There are those who feel that Thomas Edison was clearly a thinking man but certainly no genius. When asked to further explain, they would tell us that Edison enjoyed being in the limelight and achieving monetary success, as would most of us. There are also those who believe that Thomas Edison was a remarkable genius, and that nobody but another genius would be able to replicate the designs he devised. The interesting thesis of this paper is to point out that while Edison was possibly a genius, the fact is that almost anyone can learn to think the way Edison thought and to be as productive an inventor as the man who is best known for inventing the incandescent light bulb.
