"The Kite Runner" - Amir's Psychological Steps
[ send me this essay ]
4 pages in length. Amir's physical passage from his beloved Afghani homeland to California and then back again under war torn conditions mirrors the psychological journey he experiences provoked by the never-ending gnawing of social class expectations, guilt from betrayal and his all-embracing quest for redemption. There is nary a moment throughout Amir's life that he is not struggling with some semblance of psychological anguish over what is expected of him or how he ultimately reacts in certain situations; that he is in a state of constant turmoil from childhood well into his adult years illustrates the contradictions of social power, inhumanity and relationships that manifest in ways he does not always understand – or accept. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

"The Kite Runner" - Formalist And Psychological Analysis
[ send me this essay ]
9 pages in length. Examining the formalist (symbolism) and psychological (character) elements of Hosseini's The Kite Runner provides a significantly better insight to the social estrangement threaded throughout the story. The extent to which Hosseini employs a variance of symbolic attributes to metaphorically illustrate human struggle is both grand and far-reaching; that his use of psychological underpinnings draws a common denominator between knowing the right thing to do and ultimately doing it speaks to an incessant desire to embody the whole of a person's ability to choose. Whether Amir demonstrates reasonableness in the face of adversity is not as critical as whether he understands and accepts the decisions he does make. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

"The Kite Runner" - Significance And Importance Of Metaphor
[ send me this essay ]
3 pages in length. To read Kipen (2003) express Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner as lurking a metaphor "so apt and evocative that even the author never fully exploits its power" is to understand the magnitude of the story's symbolism. The very nature of a kite runner is to spot fallen kites after they have been severed by an opponents less-than-ethical tactics of coating the kite string with glue and ground glass. As opposing kites collide, one is bound to fall victim to the slicing effect of the string and be sent catapulting to the ground. Kipen (2003) explains that while the fighter's kite is "swooping and feinting in an effort to rule the skies, his kite-running partner is racing to own the streets, chasing down all their opponents' unmoored, sinking trophies," an illustration of how Hosseini employs it as a metaphor of power and betrayal. Bibliography lists 2 sources.
