Comparing Jane Austen’s “Persuasion” with the 1995 Movie
[ send me this essay ]
This 5 page
report discusses Jane Austen’s last novel “Persuasion” and the
1995 movie adaptation of the book. The characters of “Persuasion”
(or any other Jane Austen novel) are almost always constantly
talking. They chatter, they gossip, and speculate on every
aspect of the world around them. It is in this fact that the
“Persuasion” is the most radically different. Anne is not a
talker and neither is the object of her affection, Captain
Wentworth. Perhaps because of the multi-media experience of film,
this is conveyed with far greater emphasis in the 1995 movie of
“Persuasion” directed by Roger Mitchell. Bibliography lists 5
sources.

Comparing My Antonia And Huckleberry Finn
[ send me this essay ]
In a child's mind, it must
seem that adults are a little bit social-blind. There's so much that
goes on that adults just seem either totally unaware of or feel isn't
important but children know is important. This 5 page paper asserts
that The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain and My Antonia by
Willa Cather show how the conflict between the innocence of youth and
the social norms of adulthood collide - and how the youth usually wins -
with the support of the town, who have no idea that they've been fooled.

Comparing Philosophies Of Life Through Classic Literature
[ send me this essay ]
5 pages in length. There exist a great many philosophies by which people live their lives, which ultimately help maintain order and a sense of direction that otherwise would merely drift in subconscious thought. Examining these varied philosophies as they relate to Benjamin Franklin's attitude toward achieving material wealth and rising in the world; Henry David Thoreau's argument for a more spiritual way of life; Ralph Waldo Emerson's insistence on the need for self reliance and thinking for one self even to the point of separation from others; and Nathaniel Hawthorne's sad portrait of Young Goodman Brown, one finds that the separation between and among these philosophies reflects the distinct separations that also divide society. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
