The Representative Inner Human Qualities found in the Characters of Golding’s “Lord of the Flies”
[ send me this essay ]
This is a 3 page paper discussing man’s inner qualities which are revealed in the characters in Golding’s “Lord of the Flies”. English novelist William Golding (1911-1993) wrote his novel the “Lord of the Flies” in 1954 about a story of a group of English schoolboys who are marooned on an island without adult supervision. While the story takes place during World War II after their plane is shot down and the pilot is killed, the novel does not involve the war per se but more so how children, humans, left to their own accord without rules and a structured society return to their base and “uncivilized” instincts. Because of this, many of the characters within the novel represent some of the basic inner qualities considered within all humans; qualities which may or may not be revealed during a civilized lifetime but which nevertheless most likely exist within all individuals. Bibliography lists 2 sources.

The River in "Siddhartha"
[ send me this essay ]
A 5 page paper which discusses the significance and the symbolic meaning of the river in the novel "Siddhartha" by Herman Hesse. The river, in its ability to change easily, yet remain stable and consistent, serves to represent one correct path in the struggle for enlightenment. In addition, the river also serves to represent the crossing over into another realm, spiritually speaking, as well as mortally speaking, for rivers have often been associated with life and death and the journeys which are a part of such changes. These are some of the ideas presented in this examination of the symbolic presence of the river. No additional sources cited.
