Homosexuality and the Catholic Church
[ send me this essay ]
A 5 page acknowledgment that although homosexuality has been around since the dawn of time, the practice is viewed differently according to the societal context. While homosexuality is gradually becoming a more and more commonly accepted component of our society, the Catholic Church remains one of the staunchest opponents to homosexuality. Church doctrines are based upon Biblical scripture which condemns homosexuality. The homosexual, like the murderer or the adulterer, is accepted by the Church but the practice of homosexuality, which the Church views as not only aberrant but in direct conflict with Biblical directive, is banned. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Homosexuality and the Church: Catholic and Jewish Views on Homosexuality
[ send me this essay ]
A 5 page discussion of the contemporary views of the Catholic and Jewish religions on the topic of homosexuality. The author notes that while the mainstream components of these religious institutions have matured to the point where they accept homosexuality as a natural condition, the predominant view is that homosexual acts are an abomination in the eyes of God. Some factions of both Catholicism and Judaism have taken a more flexible opinion, however, and the continuing pressure of the issues is sure to result in a continuing trend toward greater receptivity. How Can The U.S. Credibly And Ethically Deter Adherents Of Extremist Religious Ideologies From Engaging In Terrorist Activity?
[ send me this essay ]
15 pages in length. Deterring undesirable behavior in general typically elicits the response to disturb the perpetrator's life in some significant way so he will make the conscious decision to stop the behavior. Children who act out are often restricted from doing a particular activity they truly covet, thereby impacting their lives by forcibly forfeiting their pleasure principle. Once this valued commodity is withdrawn once or twice, the child learns how the motivation to display the undesirable behavior is not as valuable as the absent activity and chooses to stop. This basic standard of punishment/reward can only work, however, when the perpetrator actually values something in his life and will respond when it is removed; because al-Qaeda does not value life - even and perhaps especially their own - universal terrorist-related punishment of losing one's freedom and even one's life holds no threat and thereby fails to quell terrorist activity. In order to reach these soulless individuals and deter their terrorist pursuits, the end result must be to thwart the one thing that matters to them: the intended outcome of their terrorist pursuits. In short, America must refrain from reacting to and/or reciprocating terrorist activity inasmuch as this is precisely what al-Qaeda wants. Bibliography lists 18 sources.

How Differing Religions Affect The Workplace
[ send me this essay ]
6 pages in length. There is no greater culturally diverse environment than the common workplace; placing people together for the benefit of labor needs rarely takes into consideration the religious intolerance that may be present. In fact, any sense of discrimination toward other faiths is now illegal behavior while on the job. However, this does not prevent hostile and intolerant attitudes from surfacing when a given number of religious affiliations are represented in a single work environment, a troublesome reality that has spawned the need for diversity awareness. How Is Medieval History Relevant To Contemporary Relations Between The West And The Islamic World?
[ send me this essay ]
7 pages in length. It is a harsh reality that has reinvented itself over and over again during some of the most difficult times of global conflict. While at times it serves to unite people under the umbrella of solidarity, it also fuels aggression and hatred toward those who do not uphold the same tenets. This demon of such tremendous proportion seeks to unify but ultimately divides, which reflects the way in which religious fundamentalism of medieval times has perpetuated throughout the centuries to once again raise its ugly head where contemporary relations between the West and the Islam world are concerned.
