Veterans Affairs Benefits
[ send me this essay ]
12 pages in length. It was not all that long ago when returning home from facing the ravages of war meant facing the tremendous transition back into civilian life without any financial or educational support. Veterans who had put their collective lives on the line for the country they loved did not receive the same loyalty and dedication upon returning home; rather, they found themselves without job skills, without money and without the necessary means by which to acquire either one. Many were even abandoned by their families while at war, making the transition from soldier to citizen that much more emotionally difficult. Veterans Affairs (VA) has been the instrumental force in providing a smooth shift for these men and women – and their families - by affording them education, home loans, pensions, medical care, life insurance and vocational rehabilitation to help segue back into a normal life. Bibliography lists 12 sources.

The U.S. Navy has had a base on Vieques for sixty years, most of which it has spent in training on the Vieques coastline. Vieques offers a unique environmental opportunity for the Navy. Naval sources say that Vieques is the only training ground it has that offers the capability to practice bombing, amphibious assault and ground assault all at the same place. Residents (U.S. citizens) claim that naval operations have caused irreparable environmental and ecological damage, and that Vieques’ higher-than-average occurrence of cancer and other diseases is a direct result of naval activity. The purpose here is to assess the arguments of each side. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Vietnam: Most Rational/Logical Argument
[ send me this essay ]
4 pages in length. Opinions about why Vietnam occurred are as vast and varied as the number of soldiers killed in combat; that some are decidedly more apropos to the real reasons behind the war speak to the way in which certain accounts try to hide the truth behind a façade of political responsibility.
Three examples of different Vietnam perspectives include Patrick J. Hearden's book entitled The Tragedy of Vietnam, Larry L. King's article "Machismo In the White House" and "Why Are We in Vietnam" by Lyndon Johnson illustrate these diversities in such a way to make one think at least one of them is talking about a different war entirely.
