“Nixon, The Man, The Myth”: A Review of the Oliver Stone Movie
[ send me this essay ]
A 6 page review of the Oliver Stone movie starring Anthony Hopkins, Joan Allen, Powers Boothe, James Woods and J.T. Walsh. The reviewer contends that, as unfortunately the case in this movie, Nixon is most often remembered for his weaknesses more so than for his accomplishments. Never-the-less, while it is the more questionable aspects of Nixon’s life which Stone chooses to capitalize upon, in doing so he has brought to life many other aspects of Richard Nixon which too many of us have forgotten. In all, in fact, Oliver Stone’s film is an excellent introduction to a very complex man. While Stone emphasizes some of Nixon’s more sordid moments in politics, he provides enough biographical detail to make his movie not only interesting but useful. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

"Reagan in His Own Hand": A Review of the Book By Ronald Reagan
[ send me this essay ]
A 5 page overview of "Reagan, In His Own Hand: The Writings of Ronald Reagan That Reveal His Revolutionary Vision for America", a book containing numerous original essays of Ronald Reagan compiled by Kiron K. Skinner. The documents included in "Reagan, In His Own Hand" were written largely prior to his attaining the office of the President of the United States and, perhaps more so than any other writings, reflect Reagan's ideologies and personality. Comments on the writing habits of Reagan and how his compositions typically evolved from their original format on yellow legal pads to finished typewritten documents then sometimes retranscribed onto index cards for use in presentations. Emphasizes that these writings all merge to accomplish one thing, the dispellment of the inaccurate views which were held by many regarding the inner fortitude and strengths of Ronald Reagan. No additional sources are
listed.
