Ronald Reagan: Speech Comparison
[ send me this essay ]
5 pages in length. One of Ronald Reagan's many legacies is his ability to deliver a speech that inspires, educates and makes listeners feel as though he is talking directly to each one individually. His rapport with his constituency and the global community was comparable only to President Kennedy, and his smooth delivery is attributable to his first career as movie actor. Indeed, being president was but another role for Reagan to play, one in which he used oratory as a most effective means of persuasion. Examining two of his speeches - the Strategic Defense Initiative (Star Wars) and the Berlin Wall (Tear Down this Wall!) - provides a good opportunity to evaluate the master and his craft that served to guide America for so many years. Schwartz/LBJ & His Foreign Policy
[ send me this essay ]
A 4 page book review. US politicians who are associated with American involvement in Southeast Asia, that is, Richard Nixon and Lyndon Johnson, are, in general, denigrated both by the public and by historical scholarship. In Lyndon Johnson and Europe, In the Shadow of Vietnam (2003), historian Thomas Alan Schwartz offers a reasoned and scholarly reassessment of LBJ's foreign policy with a particular focus on Europe. As his title implies, Schwartz is principally concerned with demonstrating that Johnson's foreign policy was not exclusively shaped by the US involvement in Vietnam. Rather than being dominated by Vietnam, Schwartz offers a reassessment of the Johnson Administration that argues that foreign policy during this era encompassed many levels, with European relations taking a central and focused significance. Sex And/Or Scandal: How They Extend And Illuminate The Study Of Past Societies And Cultures
[ send me this essay ]
5 pages in length. Sex and scandal have existed synonymously throughout history, serving to extend and illuminate the study of past societies and cultures all the way back to ancient Greece. That the two work synergistically when paired – and not necessarily in a positive manner – speaks to the inherent connection between forbidden temptation and humanity's innate desires. Associating sex and scandal with the political world is no less commonplace than correlating the cohesive existence of alcohol and drugs: each respective element is inexplicably drawn to the other. To examine political sex scandals as limiting the overall accurate historical perspective of a given culture and/or society is to understand how a handful of political representatives do not necessarily reflect the higher moral integrity of their constituency.
