Teddy Roosevelt and the Progressive Movement
[ send me this essay ]
(10 pp) Progressives were a loosely knit group of

each other. According to Schulz (2000), while not
opposed to capitalism as a concept they did want
to change the relationship of labor to business.
Immigration was viewed as a 'problem.' Some felt
the solution was the 'Americanization' of
immigrants; others felt immigration should be
restricted by legislation. Private utilities and
transportation methods should have some
regulations; others felt the government should
straighten out 'the whole mess.' Political reform
was a necessity. Could it be done, by eliminating
the 'political machine,' or were there other
solutions? We might say that during this time the
country was beginning to 're-think' itself, and
looked for a leader who could either provide
answers or guidance. Teddy Roosevelt was just the
guy for the job!
